Kansas Health Coverage Surges in 2024: A Look at Enrollment Trends through Statewide Maps

Enrollment in Kansas’ County-Level Health Insurance Marketplace Projected for 2024

In the 2024 plan year, a record number of Kansans selected or were automatically re-enrolled in a health insurance plan through the federally facilitated marketplace. A total of 171,376 Kansans chose to have health coverage for the upcoming year. This is a significant increase from previous years, with an impressive 37.7 percent increase from 2023 enrollment (124,473) and a 15.5 percent increase from 2022 enrollment (107,784).

On March 22, 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released summary enrollment data for the eleventh open enrollment period of the federally facilitated health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The open enrollment period ran from November 1, 2023, to January 16, 2024. The data report the count of unique consumers who selected or were automatically re-enrolled into a 2024 marketplace health plan (regardless of whether they paid their premiums).

To help Kansans visualize this information, the Kansas Health Institute has prepared statewide maps showing enrollment in the federally facilitated health insurance marketplace in Kansas for the year 2024. Additionally, maps of Kansas marketplace enrollment by ZIP code for both health insurance and dental insurance are available for the five most populous counties in Kansas. These maps can help provide valuable insights into where coverage is needed most and where improvements can be made to ensure that all Kansans have access to affordable and comprehensive healthcare options.
