Jury Selection for Trump’s Trial Begins: Will Evidence Triumph Over Personal Biases?

The trial of Donald Trump is set to begin with the selection of jurors. Prospective jurors will be asked to answer a questionnaire consisting of 42 specific questions. The questions will cover a wide range of topics, including attendance at any of Trump’s rallies or campaign events and any affiliation with groups such as QAnon or the Proud Boys. Additionally, the questionnaire will ask about the sources of news that jurors rely on.

Despite this, Justice Merchan emphasized that jury selection is not based on personal liking or disliking for Trump. Rather, prospective jurors must demonstrate their ability to set aside any biases and render decisions based on evidence and law. The trial is expected to last for about six weeks, with the core issue being whether Trump participated in falsifying business documents in an attempt to conceal an illegal scheme to influence the 2016 presidential election.
