Juneteenth and Sickle Cell Therapeutics Summit: A Community Celebration and Educational Event”.

Houston’s Fifth Ward to host Sickle Cell Therapeutics Summit and Juneteenth Health Fair this weekend

An organization in Houston is hosting an event to increase awareness about sickle cell disease and the communities it disproportionately affects. The ‘As One Foundation’ is collaborating with the Sickle Cell Community Consortium and the Black Heritage Society for the Sickle Cell Therapeutics Summit and Health Fair. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th at the Fifth Ward Multi-Service Center.

The organizers intentionally chose this specific date and location to highlight the fact that both Juneteenth and World Sickle Cell Day fall on the same day, June 19th, with the Black community at the center of both celebrations. This year’s event will feature a lively Juneteenth Jubilee Booth Expo atmosphere with free food, door prizes, and a kid zone. Educational sessions focusing on Sickle Cell Therapeutics will be a key component, offering valuable information and resources for individuals impacted by the disease or trait.

The event is free and welcomes the community, especially those living with sickle cell disease or providing care for someone with the condition. Attendees can expect to learn more about the disease and available treatment options, while also enjoying the celebratory atmosphere of the Juneteenth Jubilee. The goal is to raise awareness and support for those affected by sickle cell disease and advocate for better care and resources within the community.
