Jordan’s Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly, Revealing Regional and Demographic Disparities

Jordan’s unemployment rate for the first quarter of 2024 dropped slightly to 21.4%, a decrease of 0.5% compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by the Department of General Statistics on Sunday.

The report revealed that the unemployment rate for males was 17.4% and 34.7% for females during the first quarter of the year. University degree holders accounted for 25.8% of the unemployed population, while those with educational qualifications below that level made up 37.9%.

Geographical distribution showed that Mafraq Governorate had the highest unemployment rate at 23.4%, while Northern Jerash Governorate recorded the lowest rate at 18.4%. This information provides insight into how different regions in Jordan are affected by unemployment challenges.

Overall, this report highlights current unemployment levels in Jordan and emphasizes areas that may require targeted interventions to address this issue effectively. By analyzing specific demographics and geographical disparities, policymakers can develop strategies aimed at reducing unemployment and improving economic opportunities for all citizens in Jordan.
