Jordan Thompson’s Impressive Run at Queen’s Club: From Unranked Wildcard to Semifinalist in One Season

Jordan Thompson secured a spot in the semifinals of the Queen’s Club tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Taylor Fritz. This marks Thompson’s second victory over a top-15 opponent this week, with Fritz struggling to keep up and making unforced errors during key moments. Despite facing tough competition, Thompson has managed to reach three tour-level semifinals in a single season for the first time in his career.

Thompson’s journey to the semifinals included wins over No. 15 Holger Rune and No. 12 Fritz, who had to retire injured during their second-round encounter. Speaking about his success, Thompson expressed his satisfaction with making it to the semis and noted that he was thrilled to see his hard work pay off on the grass courts. He also credited his turnaround to his perseverance and continuous improvement in the sport despite being 30 years old.

Moving forward, Thompson is determined to keep evolving and enhancing his game as he prepares for his next opponent in the semifinals – Lorenzo Musetti – who defeated British wildcard entry Billy Harris 6-3, 7-5. Musetti’s win over De Minaur was his first top-10 win on grass and showcased his talent and potential on this surface. Although Harris suffered a loss, he will climb up in the rankings and is set to make his Wimbledon debut after earning a wildcard entry.

As the competition at the Queen’s Club tournament continues, fans can expect more exciting matches and impressive performances from players like local favorite Jack Draper, who will face No. 13 Tommy Paul later that day, and Sebastian Korda taking on Rinky Hijikata. With so much talent on display at Queen’s Club, fans are sure to be treated to some incredible matches as they head towards the final matchup.

Thompson’s success has been impressive so far this week as he continues to defy expectations by reaching new milestones in his career while also showcasing an impressive level of play on grass courts that many thought would not be possible for someone of Thompson’s age and experience level.
