Jonesboro Shooting Incident: What Happened and What We Know So Far

Deputy shoots gun in sporting goods store

Nearly 24 hours ago, a shooting incident occurred at Academy Sports + Outdoors in Jonesboro, Arkansas. According to a call log from the Jonesboro Police Department, a gun was fired shortly after noon, with the firearm identified as a Glock 43 9mm pistol belonging to a deputy named Ruben Ivey.

Witness Quinton Robbins stated that he saw the incident and that many customers urged the deputy to place the gun on the counter. Ivey reassured those present that he was a law enforcement officer and claimed the incident was an accident. There was initially confusion regarding which agency Ivey worked for, but Crittenden County Sheriff Mike Allen later confirmed that he was a reserve officer with St. Francis County and had previously worked for West Memphis Police and Forrest City Police.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, according to JPD Public Information Specialist Sally Smith. Attempts to obtain a comment from Academy Sports + Outlets have been unsuccessful as the local chain referred inquiries to their corporate office.
