Joey Logano claims pole position for Sonoma Cup starting lineup

Joey Logano claimed his second career pole at Sonoma Raceway, setting a blistering pace on the freshly repaved road course. With a lap of 97.771 mph, he will start at the front of the pack for Sunday’s race. This marks Logano’s third career pole on a road course.

Ryan Blaney narrowly missed victory last weekend due to running out of fuel and qualified third with a lap of 97.566 mph. Chase Elliott, who has consistently started in the top 10 in the last seven Sonoma races, qualified fourth with a lap of 97.562 mph. Kyle Larson, who hit the tire barrier in Turn 4 during the final qualifying round, rounded out the top five with a lap of 97.542 mph despite missing out on victory again at Sonoma Raceway.

Four Hendrick Motorsports cars made it to the final round of qualifying, bouncing back after failing to put a car in the final round last week for the first time this season. William Byron (97.518) will start sixth, while Alex Bowman (97.420) will start eighth for Hendrick Motorsports. Defending race winner Martin Truex Jr., who is making his Cup debut at Sonoma Raceway this weekend, will start 21st after posting a lap of 96.804 mph in his NASCAR Cup Series entry for Joe Gibbs Racing Technologies (JGRT).

Two Australian Supercars drivers are making their NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway this weekend – Will Brown (96.752) will start 24th for Richard Childress Racing, while Cam Waters (96.334) will start 31st for RFK Racing – adding excitement to an already unpredictable race schedule as they look to make an impact on their first day in NASCAR competition
