JJ Redick’s All-Day Session with the Los Angeles Lakers: Is This the Turning Point in their Search for a New Head Coach?

Report: JJ Redick to interview with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka for Lakers coaching position this weekend

The Los Angeles Lakers will be hosting an “all-day session” with JJ Redick this weekend as they continue their search for a new head coach. Redick, a player-turned-podcaster/broadcaster, has previously spoken with team president Rob Pelinka at the draft combine in May and recently for another conversation. While Redick is not the only candidate being considered, a strong performance during the interview could push him to the forefront of the Lakers’ search.

On May 29th, it was reported that James Borrego of the New Orleans Pelicans was formally interviewing for the Lakers’ head-coaching job. Borrego is widely regarded as one of the leading candidates for the position. However, last week, the Lakers made an attempt to hire Dan Hurley but he declined their offer. Redick is aware that Hurley’s decision slowed down his own chances of getting hired by the team.

Redick retired from basketball in 2021 and has since launched a podcast called “Mind the Game” with LeBron James and is currently calling NBA Finals games for ESPN/ABC. The Lakers hope to have a new coach in place before June 26th when the NBA Draft takes place.
