Jeruto Wins Clears: 2022 World Champion Can Compete in Paris Olympics after Doping Acquittal

Norah Jeruto, World Champion Runner, Cleared for Paris Olympics After Successful Legal Battle Against Doping Allegations

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled in favor of Norah Jeruto, the 2022 world champion steeplechase runner, allowing her to compete at the Paris Olympics after successfully defending herself in a doping case brought against her by World Athletics. Jeruto, originally from Kenya, won the world title while competing for Kazakhstan two years ago. She had been cleared last year by a disciplinary tribunal after attributing abnormal blood test results to stomach ulcers and a previous bout of COVID-19.

Despite World Athletics appealing the initial decision and seeking a four-year ban for Jeruto, the CAS ruling means she can continue her athletic career without interruption. It’s important to note that no banned substances were found in Jeruto’s system during the investigation. Instead, the case revolved around whether the abnormal blood samples taken in 2020 and 2021 constituted enough evidence to support the allegations of breaking anti-doping rules.

Jeruto had missed the opportunity to defend her world title last year while under provisional suspension due to the ongoing case. However, she is now set to compete at the upcoming Paris Olympics and defend her title once again.
