Japanese Climber Dies Tragically on Pakistan’s Spantik Peak; Rescue Efforts Underway for Missing Colleague

According to official reports, a Japanese climber has tragically passed away while attempting to scale one of the highest mountains in northern Pakistan. Rescue efforts are currently underway to locate his missing colleague. The climbers had gone missing on Wednesday while attempting to climb the mountain known as Spantik Peak, also known for its distinctive golden hue at sunrise and sunset.

Karrar Haidri, the secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, stated that after a dayslong search operation, rescuers were able to recover the body of one of the missing Japanese climbers. The Golden Peak is a popular destination among climbers due to its stunning beauty and challenging terrain. Haidri mentioned that the body has been moved to a safer location and Pakistani authorities are coordinating with the Japanese Embassy in Islamabad to confirm the climber’s identity.

The Pakistan Alpine Club had earlier reported that two Japanese climbers, Ryuseki Hiraoka and Atsushi Taguchi, were attempting to reach the summit of the 7,027-meter Spantik Peak. Climbers face significant risks in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, with several fatalities occurring each year due to harsh weather conditions and unpredictable terrain. Notably, K2, one of the world’s highest mountains, is located in Pakistan’s north.
