Jahquez Robinson’s Transfer to Auburn Brings Valuable Experience to Depleted Tiger Defense

Auburn secures commitment of safety Jahquez Robinson from Colorado

The Auburn Tigers have strengthened their defense by adding senior defensive back Jahquez Robinson to their roster for the 2024 season. Robinson, a former three-star recruit, played his first three seasons at the University of Alabama before transferring to Colorado for the 2023 season.

During his time with the Buffaloes, Robinson appeared in seven games, starting two, and recorded eight tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception. His interception came in his first career start against Oregon, led by former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix. Robinson was one of the few players able to force a turnover against the Heisman Finalist last season.

Although he may face competition for playing time from fellow transfer safety Jerrin Thompson and junior Caleb Wooden, Robinson brings valuable experience and depth to a depleted Auburn secondary. The team lost key players like D.J James, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Jaylin Simpson from the previous season.

Robinson has reconnected with defensive back coach Charles Kelly, who recruited him at Colorado. Standing at 6-foot-2, he will have the opportunity to make his debut as a Tiger when Auburn faces Alabama A&M on August 31. As the summer progresses, he will have the chance to climb up the depth chart and earn playing time.

The addition of Robinson is expected to bolster Auburn’s defense significantly as they prepare for their next season. With a mostly reworked secondary in place, Auburn fans are eagerly anticipating what this new group of defenders can achieve on the field.
