J.D. Davis’ Designation for Assignment by Oakland A’s Sparks Speculation over His Future in Baseball

Report: A’s Remove Infielder J.D. Davis from Roster

In a report by ESPN, it was revealed that the Athletics have designated infielder J.D. Davis for assignment. This news comes after NBC Sports Bay Area reported that sources had confirmed Davis’ designation on Monday.

Davis, who had previously been released by the San Francisco Giants during spring training, signed with the A’s for a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. Despite a strong performance with the Giants last season, Davis struggled to make an impact with Oakland this year.

With Matt Chapman’s presence solidifying the Giants’ infield, Davis found himself as the odd man out. Additionally, the emergence of Abraham Toro and Tyler Soderstrom on the corners further diminished Davis’ role with the Athletics. During his time with the A’s in 2024, Davis managed to hit just four home runs and seven RBI after returning from an injury that sidelined him for a month. Despite his previous success in San Francisco, Davis was unable to replicate those numbers with Oakland, leading to his designation for assignment by the team.
