The southwest Fort Wayne land owned by IU Health has been rezoned for a medical complex. This property, situated near Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads just off of I-69, was purchased by IU Health in 2019. Initially, there was one building, a medical office building, under construction at the time of rezoning approval in April of 2022.
Despite open houses held by IU Health to discuss the project with residents, concerns were raised regarding environmental disturbance and the peaceful nature of the area potentially being disrupted by a commercial project. However, no noticeable progress on the project has been made in the past two years.
Recent updates on construction at IU Health’s downtown Indianapolis hospital have been provided by officials. Still, no specific information regarding the proposed southwest Fort Wayne hospital has been shared. The medical office building near Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads is currently operational but it remains unclear if and when a major hospital will be built on the property.
