Italy is dedicated to enhancing NATO’s eastern flank with a significant military presence, including more than 3,000 units, 1,100 land vehicles, 1 naval unit, and over 20 air assets. General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, Commander of the Joint Forces Summit Operational Command, highlighted Italy’s military commitment within NATO, focusing on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
In the land domain, Italy is strengthening its presence in the Baltic area with approximately 290 soldiers supporting a multinational unit in Latvia. They are also enhancing their commitments in Bulgaria and Hungary, with plans to elevate their role to Brigade level. In the maritime domain, Italy continues to participate in naval surveillance activities while their air assets support airspace surveillance and control activities in Poland, Lithuania, and Romania.
