Israeli Military Appointments Face Criticism as Gaza Crisis Deepens

New Chief of Israel’s Military Intelligence

On Thursday, the Israeli army named General Schlomi Binder as the new director of military intelligence after the resignation of Aharon Haliva. The predecessor resigned due to the Hamas massacre on October 7th. The new appointments in the General Staff were part of a process arranged by Israel’s defense minister and Chief of General Staff.

However, these appointments have faced criticism from some Israeli MPs who are eager to see an end to the Gaza War. The right-wing extremist police minister even went as far as to call for the defense minister to resign. There are concerns that these appointments could deepen the divide between the political leadership and the security establishment.
