Israeli Army Investigates Air Strike on Gaza Refugee Camp after Reports of Civilian Casualties

The Israeli army is currently investigating an air strike on a refugee camp near Rafah in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in numerous casualties. The investigation was ordered by the army’s attorney general and will be carried out by the General Staff’s Investigation and Assessment Mechanism.

According to Hamas, the attack caused a fire in the camp, resulting in many deaths and injuries, with images showing the devastation caused. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported 45 fatalities, including women, children, and the elderly, with 249 people injured. The camp, Barkasat, is run by the UN Relief and Works Agency and was heavily impacted by the attack.

The International Red Cross stated that many injured individuals required treatment for burns and injuries at their field hospital. While Israel claims that its air strike targeted Hamas terrorists in Rafah, there have been reports of civilian casualties. This has led to an investigation by the Army Attorney General. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed regret over the civilian deaths but also stated that measures were taken to minimize harm to innocent civilians.

The incident occurred after a rocket attack from Rafah into Tel Aviv and central Israel. More than a million people sought refuge from Israel’s offensive near the border with Egypt due to concerns about escalating violence between Israel and Hamas. The escalation of violence has raised concerns about ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. As such, international condemnation has been swift, with calls for accountability for civilian casualties growing louder every day.

In conclusion, an air strike on a refugee camp near Rafah in Gaza Strip resulted in numerous casualties due to an alleged targeting of terrorist groups by Israeli forces. However, reports of civilian casualties have sparked international condemnation and calls for accountability from both sides involved in this ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
