Israel Slams UN Security Council for ‘Supporting Terrorism’ by Granting Full Membership to Palestinians

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the UN Security Council countries that voted in favor of granting full membership to the Palestinians in the United Nations. Ambassadors from France, Japan, South Korea, Malta, the Slovak Republic, and Ecuador will be summoned to express a strong protest. Additionally, embassies of countries that supported the rejected Algerian proposal aimed at improving the status of Palestinians will also receive protests.

The ministry’s message to the ambassadors emphasizes that any political gesture towards the Palestinians, especially in the form of recognizing a Palestinian state, is seen as supporting terrorism. Israel is adamant in its stance against the establishment of a terrorist state that poses a threat to its citizens. The Palestinians had requested acceptance into the UN as a “Palestinian state” that is already recognized by many countries globally.

During the recent Security Council vote, the United States used its veto power to block the Palestinian bid for full membership. The US has consistently maintained that the UN is not the appropriate place for recognizing a Palestinian state and that such recognition should come through negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The US also reiterated that American legislation requires cutting funding to the UN if Palestinian accession occurs outside of a bilateral agreement.
