Israel Launches New Military Operations Against Hamas in Gaza, Prompting Concerns Over Escalating Violence and Humanitarian Crisis

Israel confirms clashes with Hamas in central Gaza corridor with deployed soldiers

On Wednesday, the Israeli Army confirmed new fighting with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The fighting took place in a corridor in the center of the enclave, which divides Gaza in two and is the only area where troops have been deployed since the offensive started over six months ago.

Despite reducing troop numbers in the enclave, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at future operations in the south near Rafah. In recent years, Israel has faced criticism from international leaders for its military actions in Gaza, but Netanyahu has continued to pursue a policy of military engagement with Hamas.

In the past 24 hours, the Israeli Army bombed dozens of targets in Gaza, including military installations, tunnels, and other terrorist infrastructure. The Nahal Brigade combat group eliminated several terrorists during the latest operations and attacked military buildings and launch sites for projectiles.

The Netzarim corridor, where the fighting occurred, runs from the border with Israel near Beeri to the coast, dividing Gaza in two and controlling access to the north for displaced residents. Despite reducing troop numbers in Gaza, there are still concerns about escalating violence and potential humanitarian crises that could arise from military actions.
