The Islanders have signed forward and restricted free agent Kyle MacLean to a three-year deal. MacLean, the son of Isles assistant coach John MacLean, was a standout during training camp and preseason but didn’t make the opening night roster. However, after his impressive performance on the ice, he eventually got his chance to play in the NHL.

In his debut against the Chicago Blackhawks in mid-January, MacLean wowed fans with his aggressive two-way game and showcased his tough forechecking skills and ability to go hard after the puck on both ends of the ice. Despite not making an immediate impact, MacLean quickly gained recognition from teammates like Mathew Barzal for his underrated IQ and skill. Barzal praised MacLean’s playmaking abilities and great footwork, highlighting the spark he brought to the team.

MacLean’s ability to perform in clutch moments was evident when he scored his first NHL goal in just his sixth game, followed by another one in their playoff-clinching win and his postseason debut against the Hurricanes. By the end of the season, MacLean tallied four goals, five assists, and 60 hits in 32 games.
