Is JJ Redick the Frontrunner for Lakers’ Head Coaching Job? A Closer Look

Potential Coaching Staff Targets for JJ Redick Identified by Lakers

There have been rumors circulating that JJ Redick is the frontrunner for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching job. While Redick is known for his strategic basketball IQ, he lacks experience in coaching. Some are concerned about his close relationship with LeBron James, as they co-host a podcast together, fearing he may not hold the superstar accountable. However, it seems increasingly likely that Redick could be named the Lakers’ next head coach.

If Redick does become the head coach, potential candidates for his coaching staff reportedly include James Borrego, Sam Cassell, and Jared Dudley. Borrego and Cassell have also been interviewed for the head coaching position with the Lakers. Dudley, a former Lakers player, is known for his leadership and accountability.

Dudley’s veteran leadership could be a valuable asset to the coaching staff despite limited playing time during the Lakers’ championship-winning season in 2019-20. He has strong relationships with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Borrego and Cassell are also considered strong candidates for assistant coaching roles under Redick.

The official announcement of Redick as head coach may be delayed until late June due to his obligations with ESPN’s NBA broadcast crew. This delay would allow Redick to fulfill his duties with ESPN until the conclusion of the NBA Finals. The Lakers appear to be taking their time in making a decision on their next head coach.
