Tallahassee Democrat sports journalist Peter Holland Jr. reports that Florida State baseball coach Mike Jarrett is considering starting Jamie Arnold on the mound for their upcoming game against Tennessee. In a recent interview, Jarrett discussed his thoughts on pitching for the College World Series, which is set to begin on Friday.
Florida State secured a spot in Omaha, Nebraska, after defeating Virginia Cavaliers 7-3 in an elimination game at the 2024 College World Series on Sunday. The Seminoles will now face the loser of the Tennessee-North Carolina game on June 18 at Charles Schwab Stadium.
Carson Dorsey, who was the starting pitcher for FSU, had a strong performance on the mound, pitching into the eighth inning and recording seven strikeouts on 106 pitches. Jaime Ferrer contributed to the Seminoles’ success with two home runs and four RBI, while Alex Lodise added a solo homer to extend their lead. Despite out-hitting FSU 10-7, Virginia was unable to overcome their strong performance. UVA’s starting pitcher Jay Woolfolk suffered an injury early in the game and Joe Savino came in for relief. The Cavaliers showed some late momentum with runs in the seventh and eighth innings but a double play orchestrated by Lodise sealed their defeat.
