Iraq Base Attack: One Dead, Eight Injured as Tensions Rise Between Israel and Hamas; Unidentified Group Strikes Pro-Iranian Shiite Group

Bombed military base in Iraq results in two fatalities and eight injuries

In the midst of a volatile regional context, fueled by the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, a military base in central Iraq was bombed during the night between Friday and Saturday. Sources from the Army and the Ministry of the Interior have not been able to provide information on who was responsible for the attack or whether it was a drone strike. The toll so far is one dead and eight injured.

The victims of the attack were from the pro-Iranian Shiite group Popular Multitude and the local army. The raid targeted Kalsu base, on the outskirts of Babel city, about 80 kilometers south of Baghdad. The base hosts Popular Multitude fighters, Iraqi soldiers, and police. Explosions occurred in warehouses housing equipment following bombings, causing a fire that is devastating some sectors. The search for the wounded continues as bombing damaged equipment, weapons and vehicles.
