Iranian Police Officers Killed in Attack by Sistan and Baluchistan Militants: The Latest Chapter in Tehran’s Ongoing Battle against Proxies of Israel?

Militants retaliate for rape by attacking police and IRGC headquarters in southern Iran.

In the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, militants from the Sunni group Jaish al-Adl launched an attack on Iranian police and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps installations. The assault targeted various locations in Chabahar, including the marine police headquarters, the 1st district police department, the city criminal investigation center, and the local IRGC headquarters. Two IRGC bases in and around Raska were also attacked, with approximately 170 militants participating in the attack.

According to reports, at least ten Sunni militants were killed in the attack, which was believed to have been aimed at Iranian police colonel Ibrahim Kuchekzai, who had allegedly raped a 15-year-old Baloch girl. Iranian authorities confirmed the deaths of 13 people, including police colonel Abbas Mir, police senior lieutenant Moslem Karimi, IRGC senior lieutenant Mohsen Hasan Nejad, maritime police officers Javad Jahan Bigi and Mohsen Hossein Niy, IRGC Lieutenant Colonel Hossein Entezarian, and IRGC Second Lieutenant Hossein Sarsangi.

The attack has sparked tensions in the region as Iranian security forces continue to address the threat posed by militant groups operating in the area. Israeli blogger Yigal Levin highlights that Iran views Jaish al-Adl as proxies of Israel and attributes their actions to Mossad. The incident has raised concerns about security in Sistan and Baluchistan province and prompted a call for increased vigilance from local authorities.
