Investing in Rural Health: McPherson College Receives $2.1 Million Federal Funding

Kansas-based McPherson College has received $2.1 million in federal funding to improve healthcare in rural areas. The funding, announced by Senator Jerry Moran, is aimed at establishing an educational center for Rural & Community Health Science. This investment will support the creation of a new health science program at the college, focusing on clinical, administrative, behavioral, and community health.

The program will enable more graduates to enter rural communities as healthcare professionals, addressing the growing demand for healthcare providers in these areas. This marks the first time that McPherson College has received federal funds through congressionally directed spending.

McPherson College President Michael Schneider expressed gratitude for the $2.1 million in federal funding, stating that it will help strengthen rural health in Kansas. The funds will be used to upgrade parts of the college’s science hall, including improvements to laboratories and technology. Additionally, a portion of the funding will go towards professional development opportunities for students and faculty members.

Senator Moran praised McPherson College for its efforts to train healthcare providers to serve rural communities and expressed confidence that this investment would have a significant impact on rural Kansas. The new health science program is expected to have a lasting impact on rural communities by improving access to quality healthcare services and promoting better health outcomes for residents of these areas.
