Investing in High-Tech Agriculture: The Central Highlands region of Vietnam Embraces the Green Economy.

The Central Highlands region in Vietnam is attracting interest from investors looking to invest in high-tech agriculture, the green economy, and logistics projects. However, there is a need for increased processing capacity and infrastructure to support these investments. This was discussed at a conference on April 4th, where investors presented their ideas to representatives from the region.

The Central Highlands region has great potential for developing agricultural raw materials, medicinal materials, eco-tourism, and minerals. For example, a vermicelli factory is set to begin operations in Dak Nong with export orders worth millions of dollars this year. There is also an opportunity for businesses to invest in and develop the arrowroot growing area in Dak Nong.

Investors emphasized the importance of creating growing area codes and packing house codes for agricultural products and medicinal herbs to meet strict foreign import standards. They proposed building a cross-border logistics center in Kon Tum province to transship goods between Laos and Vietnam, as well as investing in cold storage, preservation, and processing projects.

Apart from agriculture, investors are also interested in tourism and the green economy in the Central Highlands region. With rich forest resources covering over 51% of the region, there is a significant opportunity in the carbon credit market. The region can benefit from reviewing its forests and selling carbon credits which can be purchased by businesses in Ho Chi Minh City.

Local authorities expressed their desire to invite investment in eco-tourism, high-tech agriculture, and urban infrastructure projects. For instance, Kon Tum is seeking investors for tourist areas associated with mud bathing experiences and waterfall visits while Dak Lak is looking for investors for a solid waste treatment plant and a golf course-villa complex.

Overall, both investors and local authorities are keen on collaborating on various fields such as transportation infrastructure
