Innovative Solutions Win 2024 Scientific Innovation Competition: From Wood-Burning Stoves to Silk Wigs Made from Snake Plant Leaves

The 2024 Innovation Award in the Scientific Innovation competition organized by VnExpress was won by Mr. Duong Quang Kieu, who created a wood-burning stove that produces hot water to replace electric water heaters and solar tanks. This innovative solution utilizes excess heat from the wood stove to generate hot water, benefiting people in remote and mountainous areas. In the second season of the competition, Tran Thi Quynh from Muong Nhe High School in Dien Bien province won the Innovation award for using snake plant leaves to create silk fibers for making wigs.

In the first season, the Dream Makers group from Dien Bien Provincial Ethnic Boarding School won a consolation prize for their project “Website to support Mong ethnic people in studying for the motorbike driver’s license exam.” The project aimed to leverage technology to assist the Mong community in learning traffic laws. The prize money for the competition is sponsored by the Hope Foundation, a social fund operated by VnExpress and FPT Joint Stock Company.

The competition has been held annually since 2022, attracting participants who are dedicated to advancing scientific and technological innovations. From innovative hot water stoves to wigs made from snake plant leaves, the competition has showcased a variety of projects aimed at benefiting communities and improving quality of life. The Foundation aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas and promote technological advancements in society through its support of initiatives from young people.
