Injured Patrick Cantlay Withdraws from John Deere Classic; Optimistic for Quick Return to Competition

Patrick Cantlay, a professional golfer with eight PGA Tour victories, has withdrawn from the John Deere Classic due to an injury he sustained while training. Although he did not disclose the specifics of the injury, Cantlay expressed optimism for a quick return to competition.

Cantlay was set to make his debut at the John Deere Classic this week but was replaced by Russell Knox at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Despite not winning a tournament since 2022, Cantlay has had a successful season with four top-10 finishes.

The injury appears to be minor, but Cantlay is expected to be out of action until the British Open begins at Royal Troon on July 18. With Cantlay not listed in the Genesis Scottish Open field next week and having missed the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week, he will have three full weeks to recover before the major championship.

Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth is one of the biggest names in the John Deere Classic field this week. Spieth, who won the tournament in 2015, has a chance to earn a spot in the British Open if he finishes in the top two and is not already exempt. With this unexpected break in his schedule, Cantlay will have the opportunity to rest and recuperate before resuming competition.
