India’s T20 World Cup squad: A mix of strengths and weaknesses

India has announced its 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, led by Rohit Sharma. The team is composed of experienced players but there are concerns about their ability to keep up with the fast-paced run rates seen in T20 cricket. While Rishabh Pant’s return from injury is a positive development, players like Rinku Singh, known for his high T20 strike rate, did not make the cut.

The strengths of the team include Jasprit Bumrah’s prowess as a paceman, the formidable spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, and the return of Suryakumar Yadav from injury. Virat Kohli’s good form in the IPL and Rohit Sharma’s leadership also add to the team’s strengths. India has an opportunity to redeem themselves after falling short in the ODI World Cup by winning their second T20 World Cup. Threats include a shortage of proven finishers in the squad, a top order similar to previous squads that failed to win T20 World Cups, and concerns about the tail-end batting. The squad selection reflects a mix of experience and potential with players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal among others.

Reserves like Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed and others provide depth to the squad. Overall India’s T20 World Cup squad has a mix of strengths and weaknesses that they will need to navigate to perform well in
