India’s Boxing Dreams in Bangkok: A Winning Streak and Olympic Quotas on the Horizon

In Bangkok, Jaismine Lamboria had a successful day, defeating Mahsati Hamzayeva of Azerbaijan 5-0 in her women’s 57kg bout to advance to the pre-quarterfinals. This victory added to the positive results for the Indian contingent at the event. Meanwhile, Amit Panghal, the Commonwealth Games champion, also had a great day in Bangkok, securing a 4-1 win over Mexico’s Mauricio Ruiz in the round of 32. His performance contributed to the overall success of the Indian team at the tournament.

As for Indian boxers striving for more Olympic quotas, Siwach needs to win two more bouts in the men’s 57kg category to secure one of the three Paris Olympic quotas available from this meet. Sanjeet received a bye in the round of 64 and aims to secure an Olympic quota by reaching the semi-finals as all four semi-finalists will earn quotas. India has already secured three Olympic boxing quotas through previous competitions.
