Indian rowers are set to compete in the World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta 2024 in Lucerne, Switzerland, with hopes of securing quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The event will feature 147 boats across 14 Olympic boat classes, vying for 30 quota places.
The men’s pair (M2-) and men’s four (M4-) events will see Indian rowers competing against each other. In the M4- boat class, a quartet comprising of Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar, and Ashish will be looking to secure their spot at the prestigious Paris 2024 Olympics. This group previously won a bronze medal at the Asian Games and finished fourth in a World Cup event.
In addition to this quartet, Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram will also be competing for India in the men’s pair event. They too secured a bronze medal at the Asian Games. Furthermore, Balraj Panwar recently secured India’s first Paris 2024 quota in rowing by winning the bronze medal in the men’s single sculls (M1x) event at the Asian and Oceania Rowing Olympic Qualification Regatta in South Korea.
It is important to note that representation at the Paris Games is at the discretion of National Olympic Committees (NOCs). However, Indian rowers are determined to perform their best and secure their spots at this prestigious event. The World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta concludes on May 21st with Indian rowers aiming to secure their places at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
Each Olympic boat class except for men’s and women’s single sculls offers two quota places with an additional third quota place available for reallocation of host country quota places. With high stakes on offer, Indian rowers are gearing up for an intense competition as they look forward to securing their spots at one of the most prestigious sporting events in history – The Paris 2024 Olympics.
