Indian Recurve Archer Deepika Kumari Fails to Hit Target

India’s recurve archers struggled at the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 in Yecheon, South Korea. Only one Indian archer, Deepika Kumari, had a chance for a medal on the final day of the competition. Despite being a three-time Olympian, Deepika lost the women’s individual recurve bronze medal match to Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia by a score of 6-4.

Valencia, who won the mixed team bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, defeated Deepika in a hard-fought match. Earlier in the day, Deepika had lost to Lim Sihyeon of South Korea in the semi-finals, who went on to win the gold medal. Lim Sihyeon’s compatriot Jeon Hunyoung settled for silver.

Despite their struggles in this competition, India had a successful run at the Stage 1 World Cup in Shanghai. They won eight medals overall, with compound archers accounting for five of those medals. Aditi Swami, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur won gold in women’s compound team event at Stage 2 while Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh secured silver in mixed compound team competition.
