In Oklahoma and Maryland: Bridge Collisions and Daily Life Topics in the News

Barge crashes into bridge pillar in Oklahoma following Key Bridge collapse tragedy

In Oklahoma, a barge collided with one of the concrete pillars of a bridge crossing the Arkansas River on Saturday. The incident occurred just four days after a cargo ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, resulting in the deaths of six people. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries on the road or on the barge in Oklahoma.

The bridge, which crosses the Arkansas River where it enters the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, remained closed for about an hour for inspection. Engineers confirmed that the structure was safe to reopen, and the bridge was accessible once again after the inspection. The cause of the barge hitting the bridge is still unknown at this time.

As engineers worked to lift a twisted steel section of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, they received an emergency warning from the crew of a cargo ship called ‘Dali’. The ship lost propulsion and caused a major disaster, resulting in six fatalities but saving two lives through emergency services.

The Singaporean company Synergy Group, which operates the ship ‘Dali’, confirmed that none of its 22 crew members were injured.
