In Memoriam: Simon Murray, Media Industry Pioneer and Gifted Analyst Dies at the Age of 64

Simon Murray, a highly respected figure in the international TV industry, passed away at the age of 64. Throughout his three-decade career, Murray worked in various aspects of media, including advertising, publishing, and television.

Murray began his career in media at Zenith/Saatchi & Saatchi in the late 1980s. During this time, he was responsible for Zenith’s advertising forecasts, which were highly influential within the industry. He later held research roles at Kagan World Media and Baskerville Communications, publishers of newsletters on the global TV business.

Following Informa’s acquisition of Baskerville, Murray moved into senior roles in the TV publications and research division. As Principal Analyst, he managed large teams and provided intelligence to clients. During his time at Informa, Murray published numerous reports and news publications such as TV International, Film Finance, New Media Markets, and Television Business International.

After leaving Informa, Murray founded Digital TV Research. Utilizing his industry insight and analysis skills, he worked with clients across various media sectors to produce market reports and data. His work was highly valued by clients across different industries.

Murray’s passing was announced by his wife Kathy on Facebook with a heartfelt tribute to her husband. Many colleagues and friends expressed shock and sadness upon hearing of his sudden death but fondly remembered him as an intelligent and insightful industry figure who was also kind-hearted and great company. They also highlighted the positive impact he had on their careers.

Despite being hospitalized at Northwick Park Hospital in London last week with hopes of a full recovery; unfortunately, Murray passed away from a heart attack. He leaves behind his wife Kathy and their three children: Sean aged 32; Conor aged 29; Maeve aged 27.
