In Contract Negotiations, Cowboys Receiver CeeDee Lamb and Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Set New Standard for Non-QB Deals

Micah Parsons attends Cowboys minicamp while CeeDee Lamb is absent

CeeDee Lamb, a star receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, did not attend the team’s mandatory minicamp as he seeks a new contract. Entering his final year of his rookie contract, Lamb is looking to negotiate a new deal. Meanwhile, Micah Parsons, the team’s star pass rusher, attended the minicamp after skipping most of the voluntary offseason work.

Despite missing the voluntary portion of the offseason, Parsons’ absence was not significant for Dallas as there will be few changes on offense in the second year of coach Mike McCarthy calling plays for quarterback Dak Prescott. In their first year together, Lamb had a career year with NFL-leading stats.

Lamb’s absence coincided with Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson agreeing to a record-breaking non-quarterback contract in NFL history. Jefferson’s new deal is worth $110 million guaranteed over four years, with $88 million paid upfront and a potential value of up to $140 million. Both Lamb and Jefferson were first-round picks in 2020 and are entering their final year of their rookie contracts.

Despite these contract negotiations and Lamb’s absence from minicamp, McCarthy remains confident in his veteran players. McCarthy stated that the team remains engaged and will be in a great spot despite any contract issues that may arise. The team closely monitors Parsons and Lamb’s situations as they prepare for the upcoming season.
