In the suburbs of Austin, Texas, over the weekend, 706 Kyles gathered in a park to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people with one name. However, despite their efforts, the record fell short. The current record is held by a town in Bosnia that managed to gather 2,325 people named Ivan in 2017.
The Texas city of Kyle has been attempting to break this record for several years now. Last year’s official count at the Gathering of the Kyles was 1,490. Although Kyle is not a top name in the U.S., ranking 416th among male names in 2023 according to the Social Security Administration, it remains committed to hosting mass gatherings of people with one name.
In contrast, Ivan is a more popular name than Kyle and ranks 153rd in popularity among male names. Despite not achieving their goal of breaking the world record, Kyle continues to strive for its next gathering with hopes of bringing together even more Kyles from across the country.
