In Amidst Conflicts, Iceland Remains the Most Peaceful Country for Sixteenth Consecutive Year

Despite the ongoing conflicts that plague much of the world, there are still pockets of peace to be found around the globe. The Global Peace Index has just released its list of the most peaceful countries for 2024, providing a glimmer of hope in these turbulent times.

The ranking takes into account 23 different factors, including political instability, terrorist activity, deaths from conflict, and military expenditure. Iceland continues to hold the top spot for the sixteenth consecutive year, with a score of 1.112. The country excels in UN peacekeeping funding, safety and security, and a low jailed population proportion.

Ireland secures second place due to low levels of displaced people, while Austria claims third place for having very few violent demonstrations. Europe dominates the top 10 list, with only New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia representing countries outside the continent.

The top 10 most peaceful countries in the world are: Iceland, Ireland, Austria, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland
