Amato, Computer Science Department Head and Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering, expressed gratitude for the support from Mr. Siebel, which has provided new opportunities for the computing and data science community at the university to thrive. Students and faculty have been involved in groundbreaking developments such as the first modern web browser, PayPal, YouTube, Siebel Systems, C3 AI, and Yelp.
The focus of the new Siebel School of Computing & Data Science will be on advancing frontiers at the intersections of computing and data science. The school is currently pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees with a goal of providing new and accessible pathways for students to pursue education in computing. With a legacy of innovation spanning over a century, the university continues to push the boundaries of knowledge and make a lasting impact on society through interdisciplinary and collaborative work in research and education for computing and data science.
