IDF’s New Amphibious Assault Rifle Takes Shape in Morocco: A Significant Milestone in Israel’s Military Capabilities

Unexpected collaboration on security between Israel and Morocco

The new amphibious assault rifle, Ahi Komamiut, recently arrived in Israel from the USA after making a stop in Morocco for refueling and restocking. The ship’s records on the Vessel Finder website confirmed this information. This stop in Morocco allowed the crew to replenish supplies for the remainder of their journey to Haifa, which concluded on Sunday.

The IDF’s new landing craft is part of its preparations for multi-arena warfare and rapid deployment of forces. These vessels measure approximately 95 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and weigh over 2,500 tons. They can accommodate dozens of fighters, led by a captain with the rank of major. The construction of these landing craft began about five years ago and was funded by American aid.

Recent years have seen a strengthening relationship between Morocco and Israel, with Morocco making significant purchases of Israeli-made weapons. Data from the Ministry of Defense indicates that Israel is the third-largest source of defense imports for Morocco. The signing of the Abraham Accords in December 2020 has boosted Moroccan imports from Israel significantly. Despite protests expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and a decrease in support for normalization between Israel and Arab states, economic ties between Morocco and Israel remain strong, with Israel being a key source of defense imports for Morocco.

The landing of the IDF’s new amphibious assault rifle marks a significant milestone in Israel’s military capabilities. The cooperation between Israel and Morocco in defense imports highlights the evolving landscape of international relations in the region as countries continue to form alliances based on shared interests and goals.
