Icon of the Seas: Royal Caribbean’s Inaugural Sailing Aboard the New Flagship Ship Despite Small Fire

Largest Cruise Ship in the World Catches Fire Following Departure from Florida

In January, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas set sail for the first time with a capacity of up to 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members. On Tuesday, a small fire broke out on the ship while it was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. The fire was quickly extinguished and isolated to a crew area, with no injuries reported. Despite briefly losing power, backup power was activated immediately and the main power systems were restored.

The incident did not affect the ship’s itinerary, as it set sail on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise on Saturday and is scheduled to return to Miami on June 29. News Channel 8 reached out to Royal Caribbean for further information on the incident.
