Hyundai Archery World Cup: Lim Sihyeon Makes History with Four Wins in Five Stages, Lee Woo Seok Emerges as Men’s Champion

The Hyundai Archery World Cup saw some incredible performances this year, with Lim Sihyeon making history by winning four out of her first five stages. She achieved this feat by defeating her teammate Jeon Hunyoung in a tiebreak in Yecheon.

In the recurve men’s category, the finals featured all-Korean matchups, and both ended in tiebreaks. Lee Woo Seok emerged victorious by shooting a perfect 30 in the fifth set of his final against Kim Woojin. Lee expressed his enjoyment of competing against Kim and noted that it was a close match. Lee and Kim had earlier secured the recurve men’s team gold medal alongside Yecheon local Kim Je Deok.

Recurve men’s bronze went to Abdullah Yildirmis, a member of the Turkish team led by Olympic Champion Mete Gazoz. Yildirmis secured his first individual podium finish by defeating Vietnam’s Le Quoc Phong in a five-set battle. Yildirmis joked about catching up to Mete and expressed his happiness at achieving this milestone. Mete and Turkish coach Goktug Ergin were thrilled by Yildirmis’ win.

Alejandra Valencia claimed the bronze in the recurve women’s event, marking the fifth podium finish of her career. The Hyundai Archery World Cup will head to Antalya for the third and final stage of the 2024 season.

Lim shared that she felt pressure to win but tried to overcome it and enjoy the matches with her teammates. The presence of enthusiastic Korean supporters in the audience added to her enjoyment of the event.

Choi Misun, who was part of the Korean team last year, had won six out of her first seven stages during the 2015-2016 season.

Overall, this year’s Hyundai Archery World Cup was an exciting event that showcased some incredible talent from around the world. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
