Hungary to Host 2025 World Judo Championships, Boosting Its Profile as a Leading Sports Destination

The world judo championships in 2025 will be held in Budapest, Hungary, following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The announcement was made at the end of the Abu Dhabi World Championships 2024 by IJF President Mr. Marius Vizer, who handed over the IJF flag and responsibility to Hungary.

The Hungarian Judo Association and European Judo Union are thrilled that Budapest has been chosen to host this major post-Olympic year event. Dr. Lazlo Toth, president of the Hungarian Judo Association, expressed his excitement about hosting the championships in his country’s capital. “Budapest is a city with a rich history and culture, and it will be an honor to showcase its values to the rest of the world,” he said.

The competition will begin on June 13, 2025, with the individual tournament from June 13 to 19 and the mixed team tournament on June 20. As the headquarters of the International Judo Federation is in Hungary, they are excited to bring together countries from around the world for this annual flagship event. President Marius Vizer expressed pride in having his organization based in Budapest and looks forward to hosting judo’s top athletes in a country known for its traditions and values that align with those of judo.”
