Hundreds of Skaters Attempt to Set a New Guinness World Record in Winchester: Teaching Skateboarding and Inspiring Children to Pursue Olympic Dreams

Winchester hosts gathering of hundreds of skaters for world record attempt

In Winchester, hundreds of skaters recently attempted to set a new Guinness World Record by participating in the largest skateboard lesson. The event was organized by professional skateboarder Geoff Else, who founded Team Rubicon with his brother 18 years ago to teach skateboarding across the UK.

Else was inspired to take on this world record attempt as a way to do something different and give Winchester something unique to be known for. He believes breaking the record will inspire children to take up the sport, especially with skateboarding being part of the Olympic program in Paris this summer.

The Guinness World Record rules require each skater to have their own board and helmet and showcase at least six different skills in a 30-minute lesson. Alastair Birch, the head of PE at Kings’ School, eagerly welcomed the opportunity to participate in the record attempt, highlighting the excitement among the school community.

Birch believes that events like this will inspire children to take up the sport and he expects that new skateboarders will look forward to participating in future events like this. Although some participants had no prior skateboarding experience, Birch believes that they were able to learn and grow through the experience and become better skaters overall.
