Houston Texans Make Significant Investments in Offense with C.J. Stroud: $72 Million Contract Extension for Nico Collins Keeps Him in Houston

Texans Agree to $72 Million Contract Extension with WR Nico Collins

The Houston Texans are making significant investments in their offense centered around quarterback C.J. Stroud. Reports indicate that the team has signed wide receiver Nico Collins to a lucrative $72 million contract extension that will keep him with the team for the next three years. The deal, as reported by The Athletic and ESPN, has a maximum value of $75 million with $52 million guaranteed.

Collins, who is 25 years old, had a breakout season in 2023, becoming one of the NFL’s most productive receivers and a favorite target of Stroud. In 15 games, including 10 starts, he recorded 80 catches for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, significantly outperforming his previous seasons in the league.

The Texans added more weapons around Stroud in the offseason by trading for Stefon Diggs and signing Joe Mixon, further bolstering their offensive capabilities. With Collins now signed to a long-term extension, the Texans have solidified their receiving corps with an eye towards contending in the coming seasons.

Collins’ performance was instrumental in the Texans winning the AFC South title and securing their first playoff berth since 2019. The expectations in Houston are high as they look to build on their success from the previous season and make a deeper run in the playoffs.
