Young Holtville Vikings Tennis Team Has a Bright Future in Sports

Holtville High School’s boys tennis team ended its season with a 1-9 record in Imperial Valley League play. Despite the challenges faced during the season, one player, Alonso Cuevas, represented Holtville in the CIF tournament. Looking ahead, Vikings coach George McClure is optimistic about the team’s future. He highlighted the young age of the squad, which is predominantly made up of freshmen players. With just two seniors and one sophomore, McClure sees great potential for the team in the upcoming seasons.

As the Vikings’ coach for five years, McClure has been dedicated to building the Holtville tennis program. Cuevas had a successful season that included participation in the CIF-San Diego Section tournament and selection to the All-IVL boys tennis team. McClure also praised the performances of other players, including freshman Caleb Emmons and Roberto Orozco. He noted their hard work and improvement throughout the season, setting a positive trajectory for the team’s growth.
