Hollywood’s Future: AI on the Lot Discusses Impact, Possibilities and IATSE Negotiations

Participants at ‘AI On the Lot’ Conference Explore How Emerging Technology and Tools are Transforming Jobs in Entertainment Industry

At the AI On The Lot event in downtown Los Angeles, Renard Jenkins discussed the potential impact of AI on various job roles. As the president and CEO of software development and consulting firm I2A2, Jenkins could design an AI algorithm to fulfill the role of a CFO with ten years of financial performance data. However, he emphasized that AI should not replace human creativity but rather be seen as a tool for humans to use to make better decisions.

Jenkins hopes that education about AI will help alleviate fears and showcase its possibilities. He also highlighted the time-saving benefits of AI, noting that more time often leads to better results. The second year of AI On The Lot attracted 850 registered attendees, including representatives from Hollywood studios, tech developers, and filmmakers at various stages of their careers. The event served as a platform for discussions on the role of AI in the entertainment industry.

In related news, negotiations between the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers recently concluded without reaching a new Basic Agreement. Artificial intelligence guardrails were a significant topic of discussion during these negotiations, alongside concerns about IATSE’s benefits plans. Bargaining on the Area Standards Agreement is set to begin soon, with Basic Agreement negotiations expected to resume in June as the current contract is due to expire on July 31.
