Hilo Vulcans Athletics Honors Outstanding Student-Athletes in 2023-24 Season

UH Vulcans Honored with Prestigious Awards at All-Sports Banquet

The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo athletics program recently held their annual UH Hilo Vulcans Athletics 2023–24 All-Sports Banquet at The Arc of Hilo to recognize their student-athletes. During the event, several awards were presented to honor the outstanding achievements of the athletes.

The men’s golf player Nicholas Gomez and women’s golf player Kiersten Saludares were named male and female athletes of the year, respectively. In addition, the men’s golf team was recognized as the Vulcan Team of the Year for their impressive performance throughout the season.

A new award was introduced this year to honor one male and one female student-athlete who have shown remarkable progress in their personal athletic journeys. This prestigious award went to men’s basketball player Kalique Mitchell and women’s soccer player Megan Donovan.

Furthermore, men’s soccer player David Mayser and women’s soccer player Filippa Graneld were recognized as the Joe and Harriet Estrella Male Scholar-Athlete and Sakai and Harue Wakakuwa Female Scholar-Athlete, respectively. These awards are given to student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average through at least five semesters as a Vulcan.

Lastly, the Ramon Goya Academic Teams of the Year awards were presented to the women’s cross country and women’s basketball teams for achieving the highest combined GPA. For a full list of honorees, visit HiloAthletics.com.
