HII welcomes Glass Futures as Partner to Transition UK Industries towards a Sustainable Future with Hydrogen Fuel Cells.

The UK government-backed Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) has announced Glass Futures as its newest partner. This consortium, which aims to create a competitive hydrogen technology and services sector in the UK, is supported by Innovate UK.

Glass Futures is an organization that brings together industry, academia, and government to develop technologies that reduce carbon emissions in the glass and foundation industries. By joining forces with HII, Glass Futures will enhance the expertise available within the initiative, furthering its goal of contributing to the hydrogen economy.

Dr. Katy Milne, Programme Director for HII, expressed excitement about Glass Futures’ partnership with the initiative. She highlighted Glass Futures’ contribution to the Industrial Advisory Board and its focus on decarbonizing energy-intensive industries. This aligns well with the vision of UK technology leading the global hydrogen economy and transitioning the country’s industry to net zero emissions.

Rob Ireson, Innovation and Partnerships Manager at Glass Futures, sees this partnership as an opportunity to collaborate with other partners and share knowledge and innovation across industries. The work done by HII to establish hydrogen supply chains is directly related to Glass Futures’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions in industries like ceramics and glass.

By transitioning kilns and furnaces from natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen fuels, emissions in these industries could be significantly reduced. Collaboration between sectors is crucial in developing solutions common challenges faced during this transition. Working together, glass and ceramic industries can advance their use of hydrogen while contributing towards a more sustainable future.

The partnership between HII and Glass Futures will bring together experts from different fields to work on developing innovative solutions that can help transition industries towards cleaner alternatives such as hydrogen fuel cells.

In conclusion, this new partnership between Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) and Glass Futures will pave the way for a more sustainable future by bringing together different sectors of society towards a common goal of reducing carbon emissions through innovative technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells.
