Helen’s Carbon-Neutral Shift: A 5.3% Drop in District Heating Prices and the Future of Sustainable Energy

In Helsinki, energy company Helen has recently announced a 5.3 percent drop in the total price of district heating. This decision comes as a result of the company’s shift towards more carbon-neutral energy production and its move away from fossil fuels. Now, Helen’s heat production relies heavily on renewable biomass, waste, and environmental heat, with electric boilers being used to reduce their carbon footprint.

In an effort to become completely carbon neutral by 2030, Helen has made a commitment to eliminating all combustion other than coal by 2040. The company’s long-term investments in clean energy are starting to pay off, and Timo Aaltonen, the director responsible for Helen’s heating and cooling business, stated that this trend will continue in the future.

The reduction in price is also a response to increasing competition from other heating technologies that have emerged in recent years. By offering more sustainable heating solutions at competitive prices, Helen hopes to remain competitive while still meeting its environmental goals.

Helen is not only focused on reducing the price of district heating but is also committed to achieving its long-term environmental goals and transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future.
