Consuming high-fat foods like fatty meats, poultry with skin, fast food, bacon, and processed meats can increase your risk of heart disease due to their high saturated fat content. It’s important to understand the different types of fats, including monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, saturated, and trans fats, each with a different impact on heart health. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are considered good fats, while saturated and trans fats can be harmful.
Saturated fat can raise bad LDL cholesterol levels, leading to plaque buildup in the arteries and increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. The World Health Organization recommends limiting trans fat intake to less than 1% of total calorie intake per day and saturated fat to less than 10%.
Some foods that should be limited for heart health include high-fat dairy products like cheese pizza, ice cream, margarine, French fries, smoked pork belly, soft drinks like soda and juice drinks which are high in sugar content as well as processed meats like hot dogs or deli meat that are loaded with sodium. These foods are high in saturated fats
