Health insurance waiting for final approval of new medical convention from doctors’ unions, but deadline looms.

Reason Prevails: Liberal Doctors’ New Convention Signed and On Track

The final round of negotiations between the management of Cnam and the unions representing independent doctors took place on May 16 and 17. The text, consisting of 177 pages and 248 pages of annexes, was sent to the unions on May 22. However, the signing session that was supposed to take place on Wednesday morning in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) at the Health Insurance headquarters for the new medical convention negotiations had to be postponed due to a short deadline. This delay does not imply that they are not willing to approve the draft of the new medical convention for the next five years.

Some organizations did not have enough time to organize consultations with their members based on their status. To come into effect, the text must be signed by unions that together represent at least 30% of the votes cast during the last elections in each of the two liberal doctors’ colleges, without any organization representing 50% of the votes showing direct opposition. Many general practitioners have already voted in favor of signing the agreement, with the Federation of Physicians of France (FMF) reporting that 58% of their members voted in favor. This consultation was important for general practitioners who needed it at a cost of 30 euros. The positive vote from FMF and CSMF as well as general practitioners’ majority support are significant steps towards an agreement.
